Well Plated

Plates on the wall. Plates on the wall. Lookin' like a fool with your plates on the wall...just me? Anyways...pop culture rap adaptations aside, I've seen some pretty plate arrangements on walls as of late and they are not looking foolish. I recall scoffing at my mother's hanging plates in high school, (insert eyeroll + "so lame") but like always, it would seem she was right.

There are really endless opportunities for mixing and arranging plates, and this is a relatively easy and very affordable way to style up your walls. Unique plates abound at flea markets and antique shops on the cheap! Of course if you have plates that are of a certain sentimental value, like a place setting or a serving piece that belonged to a family member, this is also a beautiful way to display your treasured items.

Just look at all the pretty arrangements below! And much like a secretary desk, plated decor is not just for traditional spaces!

Love. (Minus the fact that I really want to push the cart flush against the wall. #controlfreak)

These look kind of like bowls, but I dig it!

Loving the blue and white against the dark wall color.

Tulip table + chairs + plates!

Metallic trays all in a row? Please and thank you!

Country chic! Classic plate arrangement executed without a hint of frills or frumpiness.

Can you go wrong with all white? I think not.

I love the look of an all blue and white arrangement.

Plates en mass!

Is a plate arrangement on your radar?
Would you consider for your space?

Mix 'n Match

I was inspired to do a little mix 'n matching with my swimwear this season when I saw this post on Second Street East. The j.crew swim sale has been immensely helpful (dangerous?) in selecting swim separates for my upcoming vacation. I purchased both of the bottoms above with similar tops (no longer available online). So what do you think? Are you into matching separates or are you loving the mix 'n match look like me?

P.S. This is the first time I've ever ordered an underwire top. It is life changing and I will never purchase another swimsuit without one!

Weekend Snapshots

I had such a great weekend celebrating my friends' wedding in Michigan! We enjoyed gorgeous MI weather and had so much fun checking out all that pure Michigan has to offer. We ate delicious food, sipped cocktails and danced into the wee hours of the morning.
Congratulations to the bride & groom!

Happy Monday!

P.S. My photos that I put through instagram without a filter (for formatting) are showing up blurry(?). You can check out my instagram feed here: http://followgram.me/julielech

Casual Friday

Welcome to Casual Friday: Wedding Weekend edition! Instead of pulling together an imaginary outfit from my typical online sources, I decided to show y'all a little ensemble that I wearing to a friend's wedding in Michigan this weekend. It's a black-tie optional affair, so I went for a trusty one-shoulder BCBG cocktail dress, simple peep toe sling backs (DSW), a mint-colored clutch (j.crew) and some sparkly baubles from...Talbot's (surprising, no?).

I'll try to snap some pics of myself actually wearing this ensemble on the night of big affair!

Happy Weekend everyone!

And Congratulations Erin & Cullen! xo

Secretary Sophistication

When I saw this refurbished secretary on Kiki's List yesterday, I about died. I absolutely love it. I already have a weakness for secretaries, but this coral and gray number has me weak in the knees.

I'm not sure when I first began to love these desks, but it's a long-standing affair. My grandmother has a beautiful secretary that has collected books, photographs and momentos over decades, and I've always admired the piece. And I love the idea of a desk that can be easily tucked away, it's upper shelves styled and used to store treasured items. I can't wait to have one in my own home one day.

These beautifully styled, traditional secretaries remind me of my grandmother's, and the "original" look that I fell in love with.

As a desk... (mah personal fave)

Painted secretaries (as evidenced by Kiki) are also the bee's knees.

I'll have one of each, please!

A stunning statement in black OR white!

Unique features, like a painted interior, lined back or two-tone wood can really make a secretary special too.

Love the original wooden drawers and floral backing on this white washed secretary.
This printed paper number updates the hutch without altering the original finish!

That pop of pink is totally unexpected and fabulous!
Again, patterned paper against the white hutch is just lovely.

I truly love each of these pieces - all are beautifully done. I am especially drawn to the image below because here a traditional piece holds its own beautifully among much more modern pieces. A little traditional, a little modern and a little glam with style and spunk - rather like myself, I like to think. I mean, when a secretary can hold its own against a graphic rug, retro chair and a disco ball, you know you've got a winner.

So what do YOU think? Do you need a secretary?

WIth Love From the Buckeye State

My not-so-little sister moved to New York City last week in preparation for her new job! I am so proud of her, but am still adjusting to not having her nearby. In the past, our periods of separation enjoyed a definite end-date, like an internship or a semester abroad. And so, the permanence of her new adventure makes my heart feel a little heavy. (I am sure that many of you with family scattered across the country are rolling your eyes right now, but I'm having a moment so humor me.)

I knew I wanted to get S something sentimental and sweet to remind her of home as a going away gift. I instantly thought of the state prints that I shared a while back. With the help of Photoshop, the image was simply resized to fit a 5x7 IKEA Ribba frame and the heart was moved from Columbus to our home town's location. I wrapped up the print and included a sweet note from Curly Girl Designs. S loved it, and I am pleased to say that it has already taken up residence in new apartment.

Hanging up already!

Curly Girl Cards are the best!

Isn't her place adorable!? Home tour coming soon!

The state prints are such a cute, personal gift for various occasions and are easily customized in photoshop!

So glad you like your print, S! Much love from the Buckeye State!

Surfin' USA

Last night I saw The Beach Boys on their 50th Anniversary tour. It was a (humid) perfect summer's evening filled with cold beer and dancing on the lawn. There is something so summery and nostalgic and happy about Beach Boys tunes. I listened to them all day long at work yesterday in preparation for the concert, and I highly recommend doing a little Spotify search for 'the best of the Beach Boys' to make your hump-day happier!

Between the music and these beach-inspired songs, I am ready for my vacation!
Aloha & Happy Hump Day!

Weekend Snapshots

I enjoyed a great weekend with my sister in Louisville, visiting my grandmother.
Dining on the Ohio River at Captain's Quarter.

Lynn's decor.

Painted trim at my grandmother's. Mimi is so on-trend!

Not too many snaps this weekend - I was too busy enjoying and didn't have my phone too handy. Looking forward to a great week ahead!

Casual Friday

Welcome to Casual Friday, Shop the Sale edition! I have been checking out the j.crew sale this week, and it is too, too good. Inspired by all the great deals, I pulled together a look I love.  I especially love the ladybug earrings with the floral skirt. Too cute!

Painted Doors

I've been spying lots of painted interior doors lately and they always catch my eye. It's such a fun way to add a pop of color to a room. Being a young working gal, lots of my friends are renters. In a rental, you often have to agree to paint back any paint changes you make, so painting a door could be a great option. The other great thing about a painted interior door? It works with virtually every design style! Check out this eye candy below.

Emily A. Clark's mud room door is painted with yellow chalk board paint! Love!

So what do you think? Would you consider painting an interior door?
