Balsamic-Glazed Salmon

Sometimes, I cook. Last night I cooked Balsamic-Glazed Salmon fillets. They were delicious, so I'm sharing the recipe with y'all. I was inspired to cook salmon because Atlantic salmon filets are buy one, get one free on Tuesdays at Fresh Market this month. I chose this recipe because I had everything on-hand and it was easily whipped up in just 30 minutes.

You will need 1 lb. salmon fillets, 4 cloves garlic, 1T white wine, 1/3 c. balsamic vinegar, 1T honey, 4T dijon mustard, salt and pepper to taste, 1T chopped fresh oregano.

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees

2. Add a drop of olive oil to a small sauce pan and cook garlic until soft (2-3 minutes). Combine white wine, honey, balsamic vinegar, mustard and salt and pepper. Simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.

3. In a glass baking dish lined with aluminum foil, coat salmon filets generously with glaze, sprinkle with oregano and bake for 14-18 minutes or until flaky.

I used the extra glaze to coat some broccoli which I roasted while the salmon baked. I also had some sweet potatoes on-hand as well, so I put them in the oven about 20 minutes before putting the broccoli and salmon in (don't forget to poke holes in the potatoes with a fork before you put them in the oven).

And voila! A quick, simple weeknight meal.

Industrial Chic

I'm not sure when the pallet table (also known as a factory cart table) trend really gained momentum (two years ago?), but today retailers are offering a variety of pallet table styles at various price points. Personally, I rather enjoy the industrial vibe and fabulous texture that a pallet table can lend to a room.

As you may know, stores like Restoration Hardware, Arhaus and Pottery Barn sell these tables for a pretty penny. (100,000+ pretty pennies, if you want to get specific). So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this lot of pallets (actual factory pallets) at Burlington this weekend. I went bananas. 1) These things were straight from an old, local factory. The printing on the side said even said Cincinnati, Ohio! Please get more personal and cool. 2) They were $400. (I knew I wasn't in the market to spend $400, so I didn't try, but pretty much everything at Burlington is price negotiable. I bet you could have gotten it for $350.)

Piles of pallets at Burlington. Do you understand how much I wanted to buy this guy, clean him up & take him home!?

Here are some pretty spaces that incorporate a pallet table. You might not expect it, but it's a surprisingly versatile piece. Look at the different type of spaces (and the different styling options) where these tables look lovely!

(Be still my inner anglophile.)

Love the look in white! So fresh!

Adding a piece of glass for durability is a great idea!

Love seeing it styled with a wired basket.

If you're really loving this look, there are lots of options to be found online - including dozens of tutorials for making your own pallet table (Like this one from Blissful Bee). If you are remotely handy, this looks like the way to go. If you are like me, (i.e. least-handy-gal ever) here is a sampling of options:

Tierney Coffee Table, Arhaus $899

Factory Cart, Restoration Hardware $1045

Glass Top Factory Cart, Restoration Hardare $1395

Industrial Maison Coffee Table, Home Decorators Collection $429

Factory Cart Coffee Table, Lamps Plus $990

So what is your take on the pallet table? Love it? Hate it? So-so? Do tell!

Weekend Snapshots

1. Oh you know, just a MINOR plumbing issue. That is where my dresser should be & my room is currently tarped off like a construction area.

2. I wanted some new neutral eye shadows and thought this Smashbox sampler offered a great palette with some fun extras. Fun fact: The Photo Finish primer is cosmetically life-changing. I've been using Laura Mercier primer and it pales in comparison to this stuff!

3. Some recent neon purchases that are making me happy.

4. Breakfast sandwiches + fruit + coffee on the balcony.

5. I overheard a girl by the "Designer Shoe" section in Nordstrom Rack say, "Tory flats for $69? WHY am I not a size 7!? This is such an amazing deal. Do we know anyone we can get these for? They can't go to waste!" At that precise moment I swooped in, picked up the box and said, "Don't worry. They won't! I am a size 7."

6. BURLINGTON. An amazing antique show on the third Sunday of every month April - October in Burlington, Kentucky. It was basically my adult version of Disney Land. I'll show you finds later this week!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Casual Friday

Welcome to Casual Friday:  Just Beachy edition. With my beach vacation just six weeks away, (YAY!) I have swim-suits and cover-ups on my mind. I do a lot of mix 'n matching with my suit tops and bottoms and don't really need any new swimwear, so I am thinking a new cover-up or two will refresh my beach look! Here is an affordable round-up of chic beach outerwear.

1. V Neck Gauze Tunic, Old Navy
2. IKAT Print Dress, j.crew
4. Linen Blend Tunic, LOFT
5. Chiffon Maxi Cover Up, Old Navy

What is everyone up to this weekend? I have a grad party for my dear friend, or should I say Doctor? A Saturday morning date with my aunt, a Saturday afternoon date with two of my sistas and a birthday party Saturday night! Phew. It's going to be a whirlwind of my favorite people, and I can't wait!

Gotta Have It

Remember when I asked what you all what your decor dreams were made of? That one item that you just have got to get your hands on that would make your space? Needless to say I have a running list of decor (and wardrobe) pieces that I am pining after. And it's good to have goals, no?

As you know, I aspire to a custom-upholstered bobbin chair, and it was so fun to hear about your most coveted items as well. As a refresher, here is my gorgeous chair.

Sarah, my lovely sista, rather loves this Tufted Yellow Ottoman
(We're actually using this as the coffee table and style inspiration for her new apt in NYC! Stay tuned!)

Emily (who clearly has impeccable taste because this rug is gorg) is dreaming of this Trina Turk Greek Key Rug.

Heather (who obviously shares my affinity for the farmhouse table) loves this beaut of a Trestle Table from Restoration Hardware because she loves the idea of a large, casual table for family and friends to gather around. Ditto!

This classic Chesterfield Chair is Rene's dreamy piece of choice.
This classic yet whimsical Louis XV 3-Drawer Chest is the ideal dresser or console table for Colleen...

...but Col also loves the perfect pairing of style and function offered by the Worlds Away Media Console.
Thanks for sharing your show-stopping "dreamy" picks with me!

Florence Y'all

Hey Y'all! I went to Florence, Kentucky (big journey across the river, I know) to visit the Florence Antique Mall on Saturday. With more than 200 stalls, there is A LOT to see. That would be a lot of great stuff and a lot of j-u-n-k too. Luckily, I snapped some pics of the great stuff for ya!

First, shall we talk about these mid-century pieces? $150 and $125, respectively. I kid you not! Are you not dying? Have you seen new pieces that look exactly like this for more than $1000? (Yes, yes you have.)

These cube and glass tables were fabulous!

I enjoyed this bar cart. I also wanted this vintage milk bottle basket and bottles.

Hand-carved wooden screen. This guy was seriously gorgeous and just $250.

Great bones. $150. Reupholster.

Beautiful vintage dresser. Came with a mirror which was "meh." New mirror. Use as a dresser or a buffet/console table. Go purchase, please.

You can't tell from this pic, but this metal lantern was painted an adorable mint green and was in great shape. It was $16. I'm having thrifters remorse. I wanted this guy.

These were such a cute little pair. And isn't everything cuter in pairs? Great lines, and the upholstery was in great shape, so you could definitely let them sit if immediate upholstery wasn't in your budget or if green velvet is your jam.

This metal and glass bamboo style table was kind of hip and retro and the whole set super reasonable! I dig it. Also, the chairs were in amazing shape and surprisingly comfortable.

This day bed was fantastic. Seriously. The hilarious golfer fabric was in impeccable shape, as was the piece it self. Someone please buy this, have new cushion covers made and then send me pics. Maybe paint the frame white? But maybe not.

This mid-century leather footstool was just $45. Super cute!

Cane desk. Some TLC needed where the paint is chipping but otherwise good to go!

Cincinnati-area reader-friends, the Florence Antique Mall is a fun way to kill the afternoon!

Casual Friday

Welcome to Casual Friday: Cardi Party Edition, also known as Cardi Gras. (Still here? Are we still friends? Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Anywho, back to the topic at hand. Cardigans. The working-gals best friend in these late spring/early summer months. A cardigan is professional, stylish and the perfect piece to keep you warm on cool mornings and evenings. And hey, if your office is anything like mine, you might even want to keep a cardi or two handy in the highest heat of summer, because it is guaranteed to be 60 degrees at your desk. Here's a little round-up of some super-cute cardi's I'm loving right now.

Idyllwild Cardigan, Anthropologie

I hope everyone has plans to appropriately celebrate and shower love upon their Mom this weekend.
And because I have blog, (and really, what's the point of having a blog if you can't give shout outs to your Mom?): I'm sending mad love to my beautiful, amazing Mama today (as she jets off to Italy with my Dad!) for her unconditional love and support. I love you forever, I like you for always! xo, J

You know when you're be-boppin' around blogs and design sites and you stumble across an item that makes your jaw drop? And suddenly that item becomes a "must-have" even though 30 seconds prior you didn't even know it existed? This happens to me all the time, so I have a running list of "dreamy-maybe-someday" purchases.

Recently, this Custom Bobbin Chair from Frontgate knocked the wind out of me. Are you seeing this chair? It belongs in my living room. There is seriously too much to love here.

SO, I am curious! I want to know: what is one of the items on your "dreamy-maybe-someday" list? That piece of home decor that belongs in your space? Share a link to the item and tell me why you love it in the comments, and I'll be doing a round-up of everyone's items on the blog next week!
